Assistant to the City Manager Jonah Humes and Ward 4 City Councilor Will DeMier spoke to more than 40 community members gathered at North Block Common on Thursday at noon. The meeting was part of Claremore Collective’s Think Tank series, which takes place each month.

Humes and DeMier touched on an array of topics, including the water treatment facility, tourism and the city’s Transportation Legacy Plan.

Maps of future roadways were shown to inform the group of the progression of projects, including work on Southaven and Country Club roads and the realignment of Hwy. 20.

“There is a lot of traffic on these roads, so it will make things safer for everyone,” DeMier said.

The water treatment plant was mentioned by Humes, who noted that an ongoing $21 million dollar project is on track and should expand the life of the facility by 50 years.

Tourism was another topic discussed.

Claremore saw 346,000 visitors in 2015, the addition of three new hotels and 50 percent more events were added to the calendar in 2016.
